Stan Lee Filmed Avengers 4 Cameo Before His Death

Though Stan Lee is sadly no longer with us, it's been confirmed that the Marvel Comics luminary already filmed his Avengers 4 cameo prior to his death.

Stan Lee, Marvel’s main man, is sadly no longer with us.

The comic book luminary and all-around creative powerhouse passed away early Monday morning at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He is survived by his only daughter J.C. (Joan Celia Lee), and leaves behind a wealth of comic book legacies ranging from Spider-Man to Black Panther and everything in between.

He’ll be sorely missed, then – of that we are certain. And if you’ve been left wanting for one more Stan Lee MCU cameo to ease the heartbreak, we have some good news to remind you of: Stan Lee has already filmed his scenes for Avengers 4 and, presumably, the standalone Captain Marvel movie, as the Russo Brothers told BBC Radio Scotland (h/t ComicBook.com) earlier this year.

He’s the godfather of a lot of these stories, him and Jack Kirby. So, Stan, typically we try to get him out — he doesn’t love to fly — so we try to get him out for his cameos around the same time. So if we have other movies shooting on the same lot that we’re on, for instance, Ant-Man [and the Wasp] or Avengers 4, we group his cameos together and then move him from one set to the next and get him through his cameos in one day.

On a day as heartbreaking and trying as today, we could really use some good news, and while it’s more of a reaffirmation than anything else, it’s comforting to know that Stan Lee had at least another two MCU cameos in the can prior to his tragic death.

Better still, as those poignant tributes attest, so long as Stan Lee‘s characters remain fixed within the fabric of popular culture, his legacy will outlive us all. Look for Avengers 4 to arrive in theaters next summer, when Marvel Studios will surely include some form of tribute to the late, great industry icon.
