Nothing can get you more excited for Star Trek Into Darkness than hearing Benedict Cumberbatch’s deep, dark and menacing voice in the new motion poster. Even with only a view of his back in the new feature, Cumberbatch’s voice is so commanding that you can already tell he’s going to make an awesome villain.

Though he’s mostly known for his role in BBC’s Sherlock, which he plays excellently well as the titular character, Cumberbatch has made strong appearances in movies such as Atonement, The Other Boleyn Girl, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, War Horse and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but I believe with Star Trek Into Darkness, he will be really making his mark in the film industry.

As the main villain, John Harrison is ready to wreak havoc on earth as indicated by the cinematic poster. There’s still mystery surrounding the villain Cumberbatch is portraying. Fans are speculating on whether Harrison is actually Gary Mitchell and the poster neither confirms nor denies this theory. All it tells us is that he’s out for vengeance against Captain Kirk and his crew.

The new stills also don’t give anything plot related away but they portray the main characters in the upcoming sequel, depicting Chris Pine as the famous Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Commander Spock, and Zoe Saldana as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura.

J.J. Abrams is still keeping everything under wraps and carefully building the anticipation until we see the movie and discover all its revelations in theatres, which is as it should be anyway. Besides, I have faith in the director, he’s performed great work in his previous movies like Mission: Impossible III, Super 8 and Star Trek. Under his direction, Star Trek Into Darkness is bound to take us on an explosive ride.

Distributed by Paramount Pictures, Star Trek Into Darkness will open in theatres on May 15th, 2013 in 3D. In the meantime, check out the new photos and the theatrical poster below.
