From Lucasfilm’s far-away galaxy to the vibrant hills of Wakanda?
That’s the journey that may well await Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars Story), who has supposedly met with Ryan Coogler about a possible role in Black Panther 2.
Citing a source familiar with the Marvel sequel, Metro.co.uk is reporting today that Glover, who already has one MCU appearance under his belt thanks to Spider-Man: Homecoming, in which he played low-level crook Aaron Davis (AKA The Prowler), may assume a villain role opposite Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. You know, providing something materializes from the “informal talks” going on between Coogler and Glover.
Via Metro:
Ryan Coogler is currently mapping out Black Panther’s sequel and has written in a number of new characters that moviegoers will be introduced to when it premieres. ‘One of those characters, if he gets his wish, will be played by Childish Gambino. Nothing is set in stone but ‘informal talks’ [are happening] between Ryan, Gambino and reps from Marvel and Disney to see if they can make it happen.
There is one caveat, though: Glover’s potential casting hinges on whether Ryan Coogler and his team decide to resurrect Erik Killmonger in some shape or form.
They’re still yet to decide if Michael B Jordan will return in some capacity but if he doesn’t it’s likely Gambino may play some kind of villain.
Remember, Michael B. Jordan’s antagonist kicked the bucket just before the credits rolled on Black Panther, so we imagine his second coming would involve some kind of flashback scene. Either that, or Coogler will leave the door open for Donald Glover’s baddie to take center stage when the time comes for Black Panther 2 to take flight. More on this story as it develops.
