Donald Glover Would Be “Honored” To Helm A Future Star Wars Movie

Sean Spicer’s dubious stunt notwithstanding, soon-to-be Han Solo star Donald Glover was undoubtedly one of the major talking points coming out of Sunday’s Emmys, after being awarded Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for his celebrated work on Atlanta.

In doing so, Glover became the first black director to scoop up the latter achievement – specifically for the “B.A.N.” episode of Atlanta – since the awards ceremony began in 1959, so you can imagine how he must feel as he prepares to launch the show’s second season.

But before reprising as Earnest “Earn” Marks, a trip to Lucasfilm’s galaxy far, far away is on the cards for Ron Howard’s untitled Han Solo anthology pic. Glover stars as the young Lando Calrissian, the smooth-talking, yet loveable crook first introduced aboard Cloud City in the original Star Wars trilogy. But looking into the future, can we expect Donald Glover to step behind the lens and direct his own entry into Lucasfilm’s ever-evolving franchise? It’s not off the table.

Chatting to Entertainment Tonight at Sunday’s Emmys, the so-hot-right-now Glover admitted that he’s not quite ready for such a demanding gig, before revealing that he’d be “honored” if the opportunity to helm a Star Wars movie ever arose.

I would be honored, but it’s a big plate, it’s a big plate. That’s a buffet plate. I don’t know if I’m ready for that yet.

Since departing the hit sitcom Community, Donald Glover’s career has soared into the stratosphere, and the remarkable success of his music – music released under the stage name Childish Gambino – is impressive in and of itself. Last seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming, we’re fascinated to see how the writer-director-producer fares in the Star Wars universe, particularly as he’s portraying such an iconic character.

All will be revealed once Han Solo shoots for theaters on May 25th, 2018.
