Marvel’s Poe Dameron Comic Hints At Leia’s Fate In Star Wars: Episode IX

Issue #27 of Marvel's ongoing Poe Dameron comic appears to tease Leia's fate ahead of the release of Star Wars: Episode IX.

Ever since the release and subsequent success of The Last Jedi, the fate of Lucasfilm’s Skywalker twins has sparked heated debate across all four corners of the galaxy.

On the one hand, many felt that Rian Johnson botched Luke’s arc, resulting in a premature death and Colin Trevorrow walking out on Star Wars: Episode IX – providing those online whispers are true, of course, as subsequent reports claim a substandard script was the true reason behind Trevorrow’s departure.

Nevertheless, Rian Johnson’s somewhat contentious Star Wars sequel left the fate of General Leia Organa up in the air. Be that as it may, the folks over at Screen Rant appear to have uncovered some clues from the pages of Marvel’s ongoing Poe Dameron comic series. As part of issue #27, for instance, writer Charles Soule and his team fill in some of the blanks after The Last Jedi, as Poe, Rey and Finn huddle together in the Millennium Falcon. Meanwhile, Leia and Chewie are riding in the cockpit, and that’s where things get interesting.

Still mourning the deaths of Luke and Han Solo, Leia admits that she’s “still not feeling 100 percent,” which actually aligns with previous rumors that Carrie Fisher’s character will succumb to solar radiation and hypoxia – that is, an oxygen deficiency in the muscles – come 2019, symptoms one would associate with an unscheduled spacewalk. It’s by no means confirmed, mind you, but the latest issue of Marvel’s Poe Dameron only fans the flames of speculation.

Either way, all will be revealed when Star Wars: Episode IX beams into theaters on December 20th, 2019, by which time we should have a better understanding of Lucasfilm’s next Anthology pic – regardless of whether it centers on Lando or not…
