It didn’t take long for Star Wars fans to fall in love with new heroes Rey and Finn. Throughout The Force Awakens the Force-sensitive orphan and escaped First Order Stormtrooper formed a close bond, and Daisy Ridley and John Boyega both had a tonne of chemistry with one another. So, while I can understand precisely why it happened, it was a bit of a shame that they shared so little time on screen together in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
That’s all set to change in Episode IX, though, according to Boyega. He hasn’t seen the script for next year’s conclusion to Disney’s new trilogy just yet, but he did say the following (via /Film):
“I haven’t read the script for Episode IX. But Daisy did shoot me a text saying, ‘Oh my gosh, I just heard from J.J. , and we’re back together.’ That’s what I’m really excited about, is Finn and Rey back together again.”
Given how much each character developed over the course of The Last Jedi, it’ll be fascinating to see how their relationship has evolved. Thanks to the tutelage of Luke Skywalker, Rey has developed into a powerful Force user, in addition to learning more about Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren and understanding that she alone is in control of her destiny. Meanwhile, Finn learned a hard lesson about his place within the Resistance, realizing that he must value his life, his future contributions to the cause and that heroic self-sacrifice shouldn’t be rushed into.
There’s also the little matter of his burgeoning romance with Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico, who may not take lightly to Rey showing up and hogging Finn’s attention. But they might not have too much time for personal niceties, as Boyega has previously promised that Star Wars: Episode IX will give us “all-out war.”
