Star Wars Fans Petition To Have Game Of Thrones Creators Removed From Their Trilogy

Star Wars fans are now petitioning to have Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss removed from their trilogy.

When Disney announced that Game of Thrones co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were heading up a trilogy of new Star Wars films, there was much rejoicing. After all, HBO’s hit series is the benchmark for quality fantasy, providing years of top-tier entertainment that’s packed full of fascinating and charismatic characters and with extremely satisfying plotting.

As such, many fans thought that if Benioff and Weiss could turn their talents to that galaxy far far away, then we might be in for something truly special. That was before the final season of Thrones hit the airwaves though, and we probably don’t need to tell you at this point that it didn’t exactly give viewers what they wanted.

Now, with things having wrapped up last weekend, fans are loudly yelling online that they feel that all those years they’ve invested in the series have been totally wasted. Not only that, but with the final season having been a massive letdown, folks are beginning to worry that Benioff and Weiss may ruin their Star Wars movies as well. So much so, in fact, that they’re now petitioning for Lucasfilm to fire the pair.

Over on Change.org, a new campaign has sprung up which calls for the removal of the Thrones creators. And surprisingly, it’s almost hit its goal of 15,000 signatures.

Here’s how it reads:

“It is in the company’s best interest to remove David Benioff and D.B. Weiss as writers on their upcoming film. The writers have a crutch for plot devices and rushed stories, with emphasis on ‘shock and awe’ storytelling and eager to leave projects half-finished when they have other projects on the horizon. Their respect of lore alone does not make them fit for this project.”

“The latest episode of Game of Thrones got positive reviews from a record-low 46% of critics, according to aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, every episode this season has received worse reviews than the one before it. This will happen with every installment of Star Wars that they touch! Save the franchise from completely being ruined, please!”

While it’s easy to see why fans are feeling worried about David Benioff and D.B. Weiss getting their hands on the Star Wars property, we can’t imagine this petition doing much to sway Lucasfilm’s decision to give the duo their own trilogy. Besides, it’s not like they messed up the entire series of Game of Thrones.

Indeed, for seven seasons they provided some of the best television we’ve ever seen, and though they did seriously drop the ball with the last batch of episodes, Benioff and Weiss are still two very talented and exciting individuals who could bring a lot to that galaxy far, far away.

What do you think, though? Will you be signing this petition to keep the Thrones creators away from Star Wars? Or are you excited to see what they can do with the franchise? As always, let us know down below.
