Not Every Star Wars Film Will Be Available To Stream On Disney Plus At Launch

Nearly every Star Wars movie, aside from The Last Jedi and Solo, will be avaliable for streaming when Disney Plus launches this fall.

Disney’s upcoming streaming service won’t be short on content. On top of nearly every one of their animated movies, and Marvel’s brand new, continuity-approved series, it sounded like the entire Star Wars franchise would be available to watch the second the platform launched, but now we know this isn’t the case.

According to CNET, every movie from the first two trilogies will be included at launch, from The Phantom Menace to Return of the Jedi. On top of Anakin Skywalker’s tragic saga, both The Force Awakens and Rogue One will also be accessible from day one.

However, the series’ two most recent films, The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story, won’t be so readily available, a shame if you were hoping to marathon the lot before The Rise of Skywalker hits cinemas in December. The site does mention that those two movies, as well as Episode IX, will eventually appear on Disney Plus sometime in 2020 though, but the exact dates are up in the air.

However, Star Wars fans still have plenty of reason to invest in Disney Plus. On top of the aforementioned eight films, both animated shows Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars will be there from the start, the latter of which has been brought back from the grave for a new season (though that’s also expected in 2020).

And, on top of all of that, Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian will also be ready at launch. The very first Star Wars spinoff show is one of the streaming service’s main draws, dropping an episode a week instead of adhering to Netflix’s usual full-season release model. Starring an impressive cast of Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Taika Waititi, Werner Herzog, and Carl Weathers, the series will surely be a must watch for any fan when Disney Plus launches on November 12th.
