Star Wars: The Force Awakens Merch Offers First Look At C-3PO

With the exception of Han Solo, Chewbacca, and R2-D2, the marketing for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has focused solely on the new additions to the beloved saga. From cute new droid BB-8 to the tri-saber wielding Sith Lord Kylo Ren, the new characters have taken center stage.

With the exception of Han Solo, Chewbacca and R2-D2, the marketing for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has focused solely on the new additions to the beloved saga. From cute new droid BB-8 to the tri-saber wielding Sith Lord Kylo Ren, the fresh faces have taken center stage.

Iconic heroes like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and even C-3PO have been kept under wraps, but that will soon change, as the marketing campaign for the film will only intensify as its December release date draws near. In fact, as it turns out, the golden protocol droid is the first of the trio to be revealed – though, not officially.

The eagle-eyed fans that run Making Star Wars have noticed a new bit of merchandise for the film that features the movie’s trio of droids. Among them are C-3PO, who now sports a red arm.

Check out the image below:

For a droid who specializes in human-cyborg relations, C-3PO has gotten himself into a lot of trouble over the course of the Star Wars saga, so it makes complete sense that he’d have lost another limb in the 30 year gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. In fact, I’m surprised that he looks so much like his old self here.

Now, whether or not we’ll find out how he lost his left arm and was given this replacement remains to be seen.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will blast its way to theaters in a galaxy near you on December 18th, 2015.
