Next month – yes, next month – will herald the release of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens and with it, an entirely new take on Lucasfilm’s cherished galaxy far, far away. Excitement for the galactic follow-up is beginning to reach a fever-pitch, with tickets selling like hot cakes left, right and center, and Disney has ensured that that momentum continues to burn bright by releasing the official character posters for Episode VII.
Featuring heroes both old and new, the House of Mouse has unveiled one-sheets dedicated to Harrison Ford’s cocksure Han Solo, Carrie Fisher’s Leia Organa, John Boyega’s disillusioned trooper Finn, Daisy Ridley’s scavenger Rey, and the all-new galactic menace himself, Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren. You can feast your eyes on each poster after the jump.
[zerg]Rolled out through each actor’s respective social feeds – Boyega, Ridley and Fisher’s, at least – the one-sheets are a tantalizing, yet simplistic way to generate hype for the release of The Force Awakens. Though his absence raises more questions than answers, in the wake of Abrams’ comments, it should come as no surprise that Mark Hamill’s wayward Luke Skywalker is once again left on the sidelines for Disney’s latest marketing stint.
Indeed, it’s worth bearing in mind that there will be no additional trailers released for The Force Awakens, with the studio planning to wind the promotional campaign to a certain degree to doll out concentrated bursts of information and TV clips to ensure that we’re all still chomping at the bit come December 18. Plus, it’s a sure-fire way to keep the majority of spoiler-ish details under wraps prior to release.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will jump-start Disney’s dormant giant when J.J. Abrams’ anticipated sequel punches it all the way into theaters on December 18 in North America.
