Star Wars: The Force Awakens Crashes Through $250 Million At The Worldwide Box Office

Late last night, analysts predicted a $100 million North American haul for Star Wars: The Force Awakens on its first day of release. While that number easily would have shattered records by a long shot, today we have the final figures, and it turns out that J.J. Abrams' sequel actually pulled in $120.5 million. Combine that with the money it's made overseas and it's now over $250 million globally since it hit theatres.

Late last night, analysts predicted a $100 million North American haul for Star Wars: The Force Awakens on its first day of release. While that number easily would have shattered records by a long shot, today we have the final figures, and it turns out that J.J. Abrams’ sequel actually pulled in $120.5 million. Combine that with the money it’s made overseas and it’s now over $250 million globally since it hit theatres.

The film is now guaranteed to break the record for highest North American opening of all-time. Currently, that honor goes to Jurassic World, which pulled in $208.8 million. However, given where The Force Awakens is currently at, analysts are predicting that it could finish off this weekend at $240 million. Disney is giving a conservative estimate of $220 million, but with rave reviews and phenomenal word of mouth, it’s not hard to see it reaching higher than that.

As for biggest global opening of all-time, Jurassic World also holds that record with $524.9 million. Given that Star Wars is already at $250 million though as of Friday night, it wouldn’t be too crazy to expect it to knock Universal’s film from its perch.

Aside from everything I just mentioned, The Force Awakens is also smashing records in multiple territories around the world. Europe, South America, Australia, you name it – this film cannot be stopped and it’s taking box offices everywhere by storm.

We’ll continue to keep you posted on the box office numbers over the weekend, but in the meantime, tell us, have you seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens yet? If so, what did you think of it? Sound off below and let us know!
