Back in April, we finally got the first trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which brought us about two minutes of footage to scrutinize for all it was worth. And though the fans have spent months now poring over that preview, dissecting it for every last clue, Lucasfilm has still yet to announce when the next promo will arrive.
Frustratingly, the schedule for The Rise of Skywalker’s promotion has been different from that of the previous two installments. For example, though we learned the title of The Last Jedi in January in the year of release, the same reveal for Episode IX didn’t come until April, when it was announced at the same time as the aforementioned trailer.
With that in mind, looking at what happened with the previous two episodes may not be the most reliable indicator for what’s to come. But thankfully, it seems that we’re due for some new footage soon.
Over on Reddit, verified scoopster TheMarvelScoopMaster has revealed that D23, which takes place at the end of August, is expected to bring about new footage from both The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian. Lucasfilm has yet to confirm this, but we know the studio will have a major presence at the expo and is expected to host panels for both projects. Not to mention that it’s about time we got another trailer at least for Episode IX, given that we’re closing in on its release now.
We’ll keep you posted should this become official, but for the moment, we know for certain that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will blast into theaters on December 20th and bring the curtain down on this most beloved cinematic saga. It’s been 40 years in the making, and we’re giddy with excitement to see what J.J. Abrams and writer Chris Terrio have cooked up for us.
