Episode 2
A decade later, a new threat to the Galactic Republic arises in the shape of former Jedi Master Count Dooku. There is a proposal to approve a new army to help the Jedi neutralize the threat, and Amidala – now a Senator – heads to Coruscant to vote on it. Threats against her life become apparent, however, and Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker are assigned to protect her. Obi-Wan investigates the attempts on the life of Amidala, while Skywalker stays to guard her – and Amidala and Skywalker become romantically involved. Obi-Wan, meanwhile, uncovers a plot to create a clone army to support the Republic.
As Obi-Wan is piecing together the larger conspiracy, Anakin becomes aware of the fact that his mother is mortal danger back on Tatooine. Returning to his home planet with Amidala in tow, he discovers from his step-father – Cliegg Lars – that she was snatched by Tusken Raiders weeks before and is presumed dead. Skywalker mounts a lone rescue mission, and reaches his tortured mother moments before she dies – causing him to fly into a murderous rage and slaughter the entire Tusken tribe.
Anakin returns to his step-father’s home with his mother’s body, and is a changed man. At the same time, Obi-Wan learns that Count Dooku is readying a droid army, and is responsible for the attempts on Amidala’s life. Palpatine – now Supreme Chancellor – uses the crisis to seek deployment of the clone army, and a significant battle ensues – during which Amidala, Skywalker and Obi-Wan are rescued by Yoda and Jedi Master Mace Windu.
Count Dooku is able to escape, however, and is seen delivering the schematics for a superweapon to the mysterious Darth Sidious. As the galaxy prepares for a lengthy period of conflict, Senator Amidala and Anakin Skywalker are married.
