New Star Wars: The Last Jedi Images Highlight Luke And Snoke

Supreme Leader Snoke and the great Luke Skywalker prepare for their close-ups in today's pair of images for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Supreme Leader Snoke and the wayward Luke Skywalker may have spent most, if not all of The Force Awakens waiting in the wings, but make no mistake, each Force-sensitive titan is a cornerstone of the Disney-era Star Wars movies.

On the one hand, Supreme Leader Snoke is a disfigured, yet oddly humanoid alien who has only appeared via hologram – so far, at least – before The Last Jedi intel revealed the truth: Andy Serkis’ big bad has been conducting the First Order from the relative safety of the Supremacy.

In case you missed it, Force Friday merchandise confirmed the Supremacy to be an impossibly large Mega Star Destroyer. At 60km in length, it’s big enough to house (and indeed repair!) standard Star Destroyers as the war with the Resistance rages on. And though he’s been AWOL for years, Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker will return to the fray in Star Wars: The Last Jedi thanks to the sudden arrival of Rey, who lands on Ahch-To to return his most treasured possession.

That fledgling friendship, one that evokes some of the great master-apprentice bonds, is said to be the “heart” of Rian Johnson’s sequel, while below you’ll find two close-ups – one for Luke, the other for Snoke – and that image of Finn and Rose that was released this morning (in case you missed it).

Lifted from the pages of Empire Magazine, which continues to peel back the layers of The Last Jedi with fleeting story details and all-new stills, each picture brings us a little closer to those two Star Wars titans. Dressed in shabby robes and sporting a great big bushy beard, Luke’s close-up appears to be taken on Ahch-To, while the promo pic of Snoke arguably offers up our best look at Serkis’ grotesque alien to date.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi lights up theaters on December 15th and is one of three major Star Wars projects in active development – the other two being Lucasfilm’s Han Solo origin story and the so-far untitled Episode IX. An Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff is also on the cards (finally!), though given it’s still in search of a writer and script, it’ll be sometime yet before Stewjon’s wise old Jedi Master returns to the fray.
