The Star Wars Show has returned from Orlando’s Celebration event bearing gifts – namely, a pair of interviews with Daisy Ridley (Rey) and John Boyega (Finn) in anticipation of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

First up, the Jedi. Reflecting on the film’s show-stopping teaser trailer, co-hosts Andi Gutierrez and Anthony Carboni asked Daisy Ridley about Rey’s ongoing training process – a rigorous regime conducted by Luke Skywalker himself. Mark Hamill’s all-powerful Force user is clearly a more haggard, world-weary Jedi than the Luke of old – “it’s time for the Jedi to end.” – leading to heated speculation regarding Luke’s ultimate fate in Rian Johnson’s sequel. Will The Last Jedi really spell the end of Mark Hamill’s involvement in the Star Wars universe? It’s too soon to tell.

If there’s one thing that’s immediately clear, though, it’s that Rey is still very much coming to grips with her newfound abilities while aboard Ahch-To. Responding to claims that her budding Jedi simply exuded power during that aforementioned teaser, Daisy Ridley told The Star Wars Show:

Really? I didn’t take that from there. I mean we saw a little bit of training, and her being a bit overwhelmed, as per usual. But there’s definitely a more ominous tone.

As for Finn, John Boyega’s former Stormtrooper was last seen nursing a war wound at the tail-end of The Force Awakens. And though there have been reports of a bizarre chase sequence featuring his Finn and Rose (Kelly Marie Tran), Boyega told The Star Wars Show that his turncoat will be left facing a major choice come December.

I think Finn is at a point where he needs to find his place now. When he stabilizes and wakes up, it’s time to choose his side. Are you part of the Resistance or are you going to continue running from the First Order? This film follows his journey to deciding – and when he does decide – it’s game on.

On December 15th, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will make a beeline for theaters the world over and uncover the next – and seemingly crucial – chapter in the Skywalker saga. It’ll be followed by the Han Solo anthology film and Episode IX, and yesterday brought confirmation that John Boyega’s Finn will indeed return for Colin Trevorrow’s 2019 tentpole.
