Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Japanese Trailer Seemingly Clears Up Luke/Kylo Ren Plot Point

The Resistance Broadcast has relayed a thorough analysis of Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Japanese trailer, including its nod to the Luke/Kylo Ren subplot.

“I’ve seen this raw strength only once before. It didn’t scare me enough then – it does now.”

That single quote from Luke Skywalker was enough to send Star Wars fans into a collective tailspin earlier this month, when Lucasfilm launched The Last Jedi‘s first full trailer and, in one fell swoop, opened the floodgates to countless theories and speculative conjecture.

We’ve heard it all, really; from Finn’s “dark mission” aboard Canto Bight to an uninvited guest(s) arriving on Ahch-To, you don’t have to search too far to uncover all sorts of weird and wonderful conspiracies pertaining to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the latest finds its way to us via Star Wars News Net.

In their latest episode of The Resistance Broadcast, John Hoey and Co. drew attention to the sequel’s newly-unveiled Japanese trailer, in which Snoke’s booming voice is swapped out for a softer, more mysterious opening. But amid all the rumors about Luke Skywalker and his alleged history with Kylo Ren – word is the young boy once known as Ben Solo tore Luke’s Jedi Academy asunder, and tried to kill Mark Hamill’s hero in the process – Star Wars News Net believes The Last Jedi‘s new trailer essentially clears up any confusion.

And so, after a sneak peek at the returning C-3Po, the above preview cuts straight to Luke Skywalker, who utters that aforementioned line before we see Kylo Ren picking up his (remodeled?) crossguard lightsaber. That ought to debunk any rumors that claimed Luke may be referring to another Force-sensitive person, but you have to wonder: if Rey’s blistering powers conjure up dark memories of Kylo Ren, then are the two related? We’ll find out very soon.

Meanwhile, The Last Jedi‘s official Japanese poster is included below, which essentially swaps Luke Skywalker and Daisy Ridley’s heroine and maybe – just maybe – confirms that Hamill’s hermit will indeed wield a lightsaber in two months’ time.

Expect Star Wars: The Last Jedi to light up the silver screen on December 15th.
