Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker To Deep Dive Into Rey And Kylo Ren’s Connection

Per Vanity Fair, it's been revealed that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will dive deeper into the Kylo and Rey's relationship.

Rey and Kylo in The Last Jedi

Perhaps one of the more intriguing subplots of The Last Jedi was the Force connection that spawned between Rey and Kylo Ren, who were able to communicate from opposite sides of the galaxy all throughout Rian Johnson’s Star Wars sequel. But it seems we’ve merely scratched the surface.

As part of Vanity Fair’s Episode IX blowout, it’s been confirmed that Rey and Kylo’s connection “runs much deeper” than we initially thought, strongly hinting that The Rise of Skywalker will involve Force projection in some capacity. Hell, if the lightsaber-wielding duo were able to strike up a remote conversation in The Last Jedi, there’s no telling what they’ll be able to do come December.

Here’s what Kylo Ren himself, Adam Driver, had to say about this scintillating battle between the dark side and the light:

If you were the product of those two people, two very strong personalities who seemed to be almost more committed to a cause than anything else, what’s that like? How do you form friendships out of that? How do you understand the weight of that? . . . It can easily go awry.

You can thank Vanity Fair’s sources for the pull-quote about Rey and Kylo’s Force connection, who noted that, in The Rise of Skywalker, “[it] will turn out to run even deeper than we thought.” Let’s not forget that the two characters essentially grew up as orphans – Rey was abandoned on Jakku, while the erstwhile Ben Solo chose a life of darkness over the Resistance – so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that their fiery dynamic will help anchor Episode IX when it releases this Christmas.

On December 20th, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker lights up theaters the world over. But will it deliver a fitting conclusion to Lucasfilm’s saga? We’ve already had Avengers: Endgame and Game of Thrones season 8, so let’s see how Star Wars stacks up…
