Believe it or not, it’s entirely possible for interesting bits of Justice League trivia to be revealed by sources other than Zack Snyder these days. As it so happens, some intriguing pieces of concept art recently surfaced over at Reddit, which we’ll discuss right now.

From what we can gather, the tentacles consuming the Russian landscape as a result of “the Unity” being completed weren’t actually part of the original vision. Well, that’s at least what Sebastian Meyer’s work tells us.

If you take a look at what’s offered below, you’ll see that whatever’s in the top image, while possibly still being organic, looks almost industrial in nature. To me, it resembles some bizarre hybrid of the baby-growing fields from The Matrix and gigantic Ring Pops. Come to think of it, had the filmmakers gone with this design, that’d have made for a nice merchandising tie-in.

When it comes to the bottom image, we still see hints of Ring Pops, but the result looks like the worst thing anime has to offer brought to life. Needless to say, our heroes wouldn’t want to go anywhere near that tentacle beast! Ultimately, though, there was much to keep Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the gang busy in the final showdown with chief antagonist Steppenwolf.

As has been the case, I must admit it’s somewhat hard for me to refer to Steppenwolf as being “the big bad,” even if he possesses incredible power. Maybe it’s the Darkseid fan in me that’ll forever lament the one true Lord of Apokolips not being invited to the Justice League party, but that’s a discussion for another day.
