The 2008 action-thriller Taken was a surprise hit, making over $226 million off a $26.5 million budget. It also made Liam Neeson into a credible action star. Today, Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive first look at the sequel, Taken 2.
The plot of the original Taken sees ex-CIA agent Bryan Mills forced to save his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) from Albanian sex traffickers. The sequel will have the tables turned as the survivors of Mills’ onslaught kidnap him and Kim has to go and save him in Istanbul.
Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3, Colombiana) will replace Pierre Morel in the director’s chair and Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen return for screenwriting duties. Famke Janssen will reprise her role for the sequel and Rade Serbedzija will hop on board too.
Taken 2 will hit theaters on October 5th, 2012.
