In recent months, there’s been a notable section of the Marvel fanbase that’s been pushing to get Cavill in the role of Captain Britain. This new artwork, however, has a different patriotic identity in mind, dressing him in the red, white, and blue of the Captain America getup. And while it’s unlikely that this idea will ever go beyond the realm of fan fantasy, it’s clear that most folks would be a lot more open to the idea of seeing the latest Clark Kent pick up the shield than, say, John Cena.

Regardless, you can check out the artwork of Cavill as Supes in the gallery below, along with some of Boss Logic’s other superhero swaps (like Ben Affleck as Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. as Batman and more).

In any case, assuming Marvel even has the intention of bringing us a new Cap once Chris Evans departs the role, it would almost certainly be a character that we’re already familiar with. After all, the studio likes to sow its seeds early for such major developments, and you can imagine the fan backlash if some newcomer just strolled into the franchise all of a sudden and took the name of one the MCU’s most popular heroes.

Out of the currently active members of the series, Steve’s friends Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson have long been among the internet’s favorite candidates for the next Cap, though the fact that the two of them are buddying up for their own TV show arguably puts the pair out of the running. And while Frank Grillo recently relayed rumors that the next hero to pick up the shield could be black or female, the star of Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been known for his fake news as of late.

In short, we don’t know what’s happening with the Captain America name, but we’ll at least find out what fate has planned for old Steve when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
