10 Scenes You Need To See In Suicide Squad’s Extended Cut

After months and months of growing hype, Suicide Squad finally arrived in August and was met with... critical derision and widespread disappointment from fans. Instead of the super-fun spectacle that the trailers promised, the movie was a muddled hot mess. There just seemed to be too many key story and character beats missing for it to work. Something which was proven to be true when it was revealed that Suicide Squad had been entirely recut late in the day. Oh well, fans thought, at least we have the Extended Cut to save the movie, right?

5) Harley Plays Psychiatrist

Before the film came out, there was a lot of talk about the intense, uneasy atmosphere that director David Ayer encouraged on set. For instance, he told Margot Robbie to act like her character and needle her co-stars. It turns out this made it into the movie too, as this new scene reveals.

When making their way across Midway City, Harley starts siding up to her teammates and annoying them with a spot of psychoanalysis. She deduces that Killer Croc’s cannibalism is because of mommy issues and Katana’s withdrawn nature is due to her being an only child with “deep-seated daddy issues.” This last one causes Katana to whip off her mask to look Harley in the eyes, which is the only time Karen Fukuhara gets to show her face in the whole movie.

It’s an interesting scene and a shame that it was cut from the theatrical release. This is perhaps the only time in the whole film where Harley’s previous profession is demonstrated; before she fell for the Joker, she was a qualified psychiatrist.
