Superhero fatigue is a very real thing, according to the veteran Marvel director who runs DC

Make it stop, then!

It’s been said for years that the superhero bubble is on the verge of bursting imminently, and while it hasn’t quite happened yet, it’s beginning to look increasingly likely that the moment is nigh. If there’s one person in the industry not named Kevin Feige who can stop it, though, then it’s James Gunn.

After all, many have been looking towards the filmmaker’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as the potential savior of the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the lackluster returns enjoyed by the majority of the Multiverse Saga so far, while his ascension to he role of DC Studios co-CEO gives him the keys to the kingdom of Hollywood’s other marquee shared universe.

Gunn is famed for his honesty and openness, so it’s not really all that much of a surprise to hear him admit when asked by The Hollywood Reporter if comic book fatigue was a real thing that he was in full agreement.

“The entertainment industry has a history of people getting used to the spigot of one thing or another, whether it’s DVD sales or superhero movies. I think that there have been just way too many superhero movies lately that don’t have that center to them.”

In a fortunate stroke of coincidence, Gunn is one of the very few people in a position of power capable of stopping the rot. With Superman: Legacy on the docket for the summer of 2025 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releasing at the end of next week, the time to turn the tide and plug the gaps begins now, and he’s right at the center of the storm.
