The 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival is set to kick off next week, which means that celebrities and filmmakers from all over will descend upon the south of France for two weeks of wining, dining, and of course, watching new movies. Over 20 films are expected to compete for the prestigious Palme d’Or – including Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood – and plenty of movie distribution deals and announcements are expected to emerge as the festival gets underway.
While it might seem out of place for a festival that places emphasis on artistry, action fans will be glad to hear that Rambo V: Last Blood will be making an appearance at Cannes. As reported by Deadline, veteran actor and screenwriter Sylvester Stallone – perhaps best known for his role as boxer Rocky Balboa – will be traveling to France to promote Rambo V.
The festival will be hosting a career tribute for Stallone, which is set to take place on Friday, May 24th. During the event, exclusive promotional stills from Last Blood will be shown off, along with a video montage of Sylvester’s career. To cap off the evening, a screening of Rambo: First Blood will be held.
Fans will also be glad to hear that a brand new, ultra-high definition version of Rambo: First Blood is in the works. It seems the original trilogy is being restored, with 4K, 16-bit scans sourced from original camera negatives. It’s not entirely clear when these remasters will be released, but with First Blood set to screen at Cannes, we’re hoping that we won’t have to wait too long.
If you’re in the market for something more recent, don’t worry. Rambo V: Last Blood will be hitting theaters later this year on September 20th.
