2015 is Taron Egerton’s year. After a huge starring role in Kingsman: The Secret Service, which has created a ton of buzz for the young actor, his star is starting to rise considerably and if recent rumors are to believed, he might be up for what could be the biggest role of his career.
According to UK tabloid The Sun, the actor is being eyed to play young Han Solo in one of the standalone Star Wars films. Now, as we have already learnt, Gareth Edwards will be directing the first standalone entry and that will be hitting theatres in December 2016. In 2017 though, we’ll be getting the second one, which we believe Josh Trank is handling. It’s this film that Egerton would star in, as the plot will, apparently, focus on “how Harrison Ford’s iconic character got the Millennium Falcon as well as show how he fell out with Jabba the Hutt.”
While we would typically dismiss this as nothing more than a rumor, Mark Millar (who wrote Kingsman) Tweeted the following this weekend:
Taron shot first. #justsayin

Whether or not he’s just pulling our leg is up for debate, but it’s definitely intriguing. After all, Egerton is certainly a good candidate for a young Han Solo, as he exhibited many of the character’s traits in his role in Kingsman. In fact, all things considered, this casting could work out really well and fans would probably embrace Egerton.
Again though, this is all just speculation at this point and until we have something concrete, there’s no point in getting all excited. We’ll definitely let you know when we hear more, but for now, tell us, would you like to see Taron Egerton play Han Solo in the second standalone Star Wars film.
