Regardless, things are shaping up well for the project, with the first trailer landing a few months back to a positive reception. And now, to keep the momentum going, the studio’s released a new batch of Rocketman photos, which show off more of Egerton’s transformation into the iconic musician. He looks great, too, and these pics definitely help fuel our excitement to witness his performance on the big screen later this year.

Promising an “uncensored” look into the life and legacy of Elton John, Rocketman will take audiences on a journey through time, culminating in the historic release of the titular song, by which point he was a true creative powerhouse and one of the most beloved artists in the world.

Circling back to the tone of Rocketman, though, and as we said above, Egerton’s described it as a “musical fantasy” in the past, which makes sense once you’ve seen the trailer.

“Everyone thinks it’s a bio-pic,” says the actor. “But it isn’t. It’s a fantasy musical so it’s actually his songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments. He’s not the only character that sings. It’s going to be fun.”

Rocketman blasts onto cinema screens on May 31st, 2019, and with any luck, it’ll be able to rise above the mediocrity we so often see with these types of films. Though if what Egerton says is true, and that first trailer’s any indication, it should at least be able to offer up something pretty unique, along with a strong central performance from the Kingsman star.
