On his Instagram page over the weekend, Vin Diesel revealed the first official teaser poster for the upcoming eight installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, confirmed to be called Fast 8.  The poster promises that there are “new roads ahead” for Toretto and the gang, and also confirms that the film will release in April of 2017, with some of the story at least partially taking place within New York City.

Diesel’s post gave no frame of reference to the movie’s plot, of course, but recent reports suggest a portion of the movie will film in Cuba as well. Behind the scenes, Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray will be at the directing helm this time, taking over from Furious 7‘s James Wan. Most of the movie’s stars have yet to confirm their return to the franchise besides Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson, but the other cast members are expected to reprise their roles.

Earlier in 2015, sources speaking with We Got This Covered hinted that the eighth film’s plot may hinge on Eva Mendes’ Monica Fuentes character from 2 Fast 2 Furious. Those earlier rumors pointed to the gang taking on a villain in NYC, which Diesel’s post now reveals to be accurate.

According to a statement from Diesel himself, Fast 8 will be the beginning of a new trilogy of Fast and Furious films that are intended to close out the franchise once-and-for-all with a tenth and final film, following the death of co-star Paul Walker in 2013.

Tell us, what do you think about the new poster (pictured below) for Fast 8? And do you think the series should end on the tenth film? Let us know in the comments.
