The mystery surrounding Terminator 5 has been revealed today, at least in part. Paramount, Annapurna and Skydance Pictures have announced today that firstly, the film will open on July 26th, 2015 and secondly, it is a reboot that will act as a new "stand-alone trilogy." Unfortunately, we didn't get any further details as to what the plot will revolve around or just how "stand-alone" it will be but still, now we know what the filmmakers are going for here and can start to conjure up some ideas of what to expect.

The mystery surrounding Terminator 5 has been revealed today, at least in part. Paramount, Annapurna and Skydance Pictures have announced today that firstly, the film will open on July 26th, 2015 and secondly, it is a reboot that will act as a new “stand-alone trilogy.” Unfortunately, we didn’t get any further details as to what the plot will revolve around or just how “stand-alone” it will be but still, now we know what the filmmakers are going for here and can start to conjure up some ideas of what to expect.

So, let’s recap what we know. In addition to the above, it’s been confirmed that Arnold Schwarzenegger will return, the film will start shooting in January and Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) are writing the script. Anything further is just pure speculation at this point.

With Terminator 5 now slated for the Summer of 2015, moviegoers have a lot to look forward to, with Star Wars: Episode VII, Jurassic Park IV, Independence Day 2, The Avengers 2, Man of Steel 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 all hitting theatres that Summer as well. It’s going to be a very, very busy couple of months for Hollywood.

Anyways, back to Terminator 5. I’ll be honest, I kind of like the idea of a reboot and stand-alone trilogy. It gives them a chance to start fresh in a way and not be tied down or held back by what the previous films did. And considering so much time has gone by since the original Terminator, I think that’s a good thing.

What do you think? Are you happy to see them going the “reboot/stand-alone trilogy” route for Terminator 5? What are your thoughts on what the story may involve? Let us know in the comments below.
