September 16th cannot come soon enough. On that date, my most anticipated film of this year will hit theatres. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is shaping up to be one of the year’s best films and the promotional material that keeps coming our way is terrific. Today sees the release of a brilliant new trailer that enhances the tension of the first teaser, providing a more detailed look at the film and a whole lot more of Tom Hardy.

The film is based on John le Carre’s best selling novel, featuring his signature character George Smiley, played here by Gary Oldman, a retired British spy who is brought back to hunt down for a Russian mole inside the service, which is codenamed the Circus. It is directed by Tomas Alfredson, the Swedish filmmaker who brought us the original Let the Right One In and from this trailer, he appears to capturing the novel’s tone perfectly.

It looks to be a moody period piece, filled with the same kind of smokey rooms and fashion sense of Mad Men, only more degraded and seedy. The cast is also fantastic, featuring some top screen talent behind Oldman, who now looks to be a shoe in for awards. Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciaran Hinds and Toby Jones all take the main roles in what might be labelled by some critics as the Best Film of the Year.

The film hits the UK on September 16th and in the US two months later in November.
