Warner Bros. has brought Oscar-nominated writer Terry Rossio on board to pen Yucutan for Robert Downey Jr. The original 1700-page treatment was written by Steve McQueen back in the 1960s and was originally envisioned as a star vehicle for himself. Obviously, that didn’t pan out and now, the studio is hoping to update it.
The original treatment is said to be a “jumping-off point” for what is being described as a “mind-bending adventure story,” but there’s no word yet on what Rossio has planned for the update. We do know, though, that in McQueen’s version, the initial premise followed “a renegade salvage expert on a quest to find a Mayan treasure in the Yucatan Peninsula.”
So, kind of like Indiana Jones meets Inception? Sounds good to me.
We’ll keep you posted when we hear more on this very intriguing project, but for now, tell us, what do you think of Yucutan? Does it sound like a good film for Downey Jr. to tackle? And can Rossio do McQueen’s original treatment justice?
