With a male lead already set for the Han Solo spinoff film in the form of Alden Ehrenreich, it’s time for the studio to start searching for his female co-star. While they haven’t settled on anyone just yet, Variety is reporting that Tessa Thompson, Naomi Scott and Zoe Kravitz all tested in London this week for the role.
Production is set to get underway in early 2017, with The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller calling the shots. However, even with shooting only a couple of months out, we still really haven’t heard very much about Disney’s plans for the film. There’s been rumors of Donald Glover possibly being eyed for the role of a young Lando Calrissian, and reports that Bradford Young will act as cinematographer, hot off his work on Arrival, but aside from that, it’s been pretty quiet.
As such, this news from Variety is most certainly welcome, as it has us thinking that things are starting to heat up – meaning we could get a full cast list sooner rather than later. The studio isn’t expected to make a decision on the female lead until at least a few more weeks, but Thompson is our favorite for the part, riding high on strong turns in Selma and Creed, not to mention a part in the upcoming Alex Garland movie, Annihilation.
The Han Solo spinoff will be with us on May 25th, 2018. While we wait to learn more, tell us, who do you want to see co-star opposite Alden Ehrenreich in the female lead role? Sound off below and let us know!
