X-Men: Dark Phoenix MCU

Marvel Will Use Thanos’ Snap To Introduce X-Men Into The MCU

With Marvel getting the rights back to the team thanks to the Disney/Fox merger, we know that at some point in the not-so-distant future the X-Men will join the MCU. Fans can't wait for the likes of Wolverine and Deadpool to exist in the same world as Spider-Man and Captain Marvel. The only thing is that it could be tricky to explain the sudden appearance of mutantkind.

According to our source though, we might get our first hint at the origins of mutants in The Eternals. The movie, reportedly starring the likes of Angelina Jolie, Keanu Reeves and Richard Madden, is set to introduce the eponymous ancient race of immortals into the franchise. We Got This Covered has been told that the film will also reveal that the Eternals created the X-Gene.

This will sow the seeds for the eventual X-Men reboot, in which our source informs us, that Thanos’ Snap from the end of Avengers: Infinity War will be used as the explanation for the X-gene being activated across the globe, thereby creating mutants.

We should note that the idea of the Snap having major consequences for the MCU going forward has already been confirmed in the marketing for Spider-Man: Far From Home, which has revealed that the Mad Titan’s actions weakened the walls between the dimensions, through which slipped Mysterio and the Elementals into Earth-616.

Not only that, but this version of the X-Men’s origins would essentially be borrowing from the Inhumans. In the comics and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.the race is the result of Kree experimentation on humans millennia ago whose powers are then awakened by the Terrigen mists in the present day.

If this is the way Marvel goes with introducing the X-Men, no doubt some fans wouldn’t be happy with the similarities to the Inhumans. However, given that they can’t just pretend that mutants have been around the whole time, this also may be the smartest way of approaching it.
