Thanos Wields The Infinity Gauntlet On New Avengers: Infinity War Promo Art

In Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos will finally step out of the shadows and take on the combined forces of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. After various teaser appearances and cameos dating all the way back to 2012's The Avengers, there's a lot of hype for the Mad Titan and he's all set to be the biggest, baddest enemy the heroes of the Marvel universe have ever faced. We're sure that the titular team will ultimately be able to take him down, but they're certainly going to have a tough time doing so.

In Avengers: Infinity WarThanos will finally step out of the shadows and take on the combined forces of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. After various teaser appearances and cameos dating all the way back to 2012’s The Avengers, there’s a lot of hype for the Mad Titan and he’s all set to be the biggest, baddest enemy the heroes of the Marvel universe have ever faced. We’re sure that the titular team will ultimately be able to take him down, but they’re certainly going to have a tough time doing so.

Not only will Thanos have the Black Order there to help him, but he’ll also be in possession of the incredibly powerful Infinity Gauntlet, which will be fully equipped by the time the film rolls around. It’ll essentially allow the uber villain to wreak havoc and do just about anything he wants, and it’s seen in all its glory in this new promo art.

Though it’s unclear where exactly the image we have here hails from (apparently it’s tied to some upcoming merchandise, though), it’s yet another photo of the baddie wielding his beloved weapon, and you can check it out down in the gallery below alongside some previously released art.

As you can see, it’s hardly the most revealing look at Thanos, nor is it very clear, but what we’d also like to point out here is the character’s stripped-down design, which has been teased before. Unlike in previous appearances in the franchise, the Mad Titan won’t be fully suited up in all of his armour in Infinity War, and that’s because he feels like he simply doesn’t need it anymore. Speaking at Comic-Con back in July, co-director Joe Russo revealed the following:

“[Thanos] has a more casual approach in this film, and it’s very philosophical for him. It’s part of his character definition. It’s a spiritual journey for him to collect the Stones, and one with which he doesn’t need armor. Once he starts acquiring the Stones, he doesn’t need armor in the same way he did when he was a war lord. It’s a very symbolic costume.”

Having Thanos’ ego be so great that he believes he doesn’t need his armour when he has possession of the Infinity Stones is a neat idea, and it goes some way to presenting him as a massively powerful and confident foe for Earth’s the Galaxy’s Mightiest Heroes. It is a big change from the comics, though, in which Thanos is always decked out in his signature armor, so it’ll be interesting to see if fans are on board with the decision. Time will tell.

Packed to the rafters with scene-stealing chemistry and “intense surprises,” Avengers: Infinity War is now less than a year away and will launch into theaters on May 4th, 2018. The fourth, so-far untitled Avengers film will then release in May of 2019, by which point viewers will be acquainted with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers and her ’90s-set origin story. March 8th, 2019 is the date for your diaries for that one.
