‘The best you’ll ever work for’: ‘Secret Invasion’ star has high praise for Marvel Studios

The studio's massive undertaking has earned it all the respect in the world from the actor.

We’re nearly a month away from Secret Invasion, and the strengths of the MCU’s Phase Five look all but ready to blossom. After Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 injected some much-needed life into the theatrical side of things, Secret Invasion seems to boast all the tools it needs to kick off Marvel’s 2023 Disney Plus slate in a big way.

Among those tools is a world-class ensemble cast that only Marvel Studios could acquire; with longtime veterans and a handful of newcomers among the roster, to say nothing of the electrifying star power throughout, Secret Invasion no doubt has the screen presence department covered.

One of the stars of the show, Ben Mendelsohn, encapsulates the essence of this cast all on his own; while technically a Marvel veteran thanks to his first turn as Talos in Captain Marvel, this will be his first time spearheading a project as the lead (albeit alongside Samuel L. Jackson), and he has glowing reports of the experience.

In an interview with Collider, Mendelsohn shouted out Marvel Studios for apparently being “the best people on Earth,” praising its ability to tackle the ever-ambitious MCU with the relative deftness that it has.

“Awesome. They’re the best people on Earth, at that company. They’re the best you’ll ever work for. And the fact that they were going in that direction, I’m very excited about Secret Invasion. They’re the best. I had a real evolution in understanding the possibilities that lay within the genre. Because of its dominance, I’m so thrilled that they are doing what they do. They’re geniuses with it.”

We’re glad Mendelsohn had a good time, but we’re not sure if we’ll be taking his sentiment as a blanket statement any time soon. It’s no secret that working for Marvel has, at least recently, been something of a nightmare for VFX artists, and given the lack of a response to the writers’ strike coupled with some film-killing Quantumania reshoots (which, let’s be honest, was probably born out of studio interference with the script), we reckon writing for Marvel isn’t the greatest experience at the moment, either.

Secret Invasion is due on Disney Plus on June 21.
