The Contents Of Awesome Mix Vol. 2 Have Been Revealed Ahead Of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2; Chris Pratt Teases Star-Lord’s Future

Rolling Stone has cracked open Awesome Mix Vol. 2 to unveil the official soundtrack to James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

From “Spirit in the Sky” to Blue Swede’s infectious “Hooked on a Feeling” – a song that has since become synonymous with Marvel’s galactic anti-heroes – the soundtrack to Guardians of the Galaxy was arguably the most crowd-pleasing element of James Gunn’s 2014 sleeper hit. And that’s really saying something, given the film featured a talking tree and a warrior that struggled to wrap his head around the concept of a metaphor.

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 now teetering on the verge of its theatrical release, the level of interest in Star-Lord and the crew has grown astronomically in the past three years, though if there’s one ingredient that James Gunn has carried over from the first movie, it’s fist-pumping power ballads. Now, Rolling Stone has officially cracked open Awesome Mix Vol. 2 to reveal the songs set to feature throughout Guardians 2.

To his credit, James Gunn has warned fans that a select handful of those tunes included in the sequel’s trailers won’t make the final cut, but at the very least, you can look forward to “Fox on the Run” and Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” echoing around your nearby theater on April 28th – or May 5th, if you’re located in North America.

Per Rolling Stone:

1. “Mr. Blue Sky” – Electric Light Orchestra
2. “Fox on the Run” – Sweet
3. “Lake Shore Drive” – Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah
4. “The Chain” – Fleetwood Mac
5. “Bring It on Home to Me” – Sam Cooke
6. “Southern Nights” – Glen Campbell
7. “My Sweet Lord” – George Harrison
8. “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” – Looking Glass
9. “Come a Little Bit Closer” – Jay and the Americans
10. “Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang” – Silver
11. “Surrender” – Cheap Trick
12. “Father and Son” – Cat Stevens
13. “Flash Light” – Parliament
14. “Guardians Inferno” – The Sneepers featuring David Hasselhoff

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the latest adventure for Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and little Baby Groot, but it’s by no means the last. After inking a deal to write and direct Guardians 3, James Gunn is already beginning to formulate the next chapter, which will no doubt come packing a fantastic, old-school soundtrack of its own. For Chris Pratt, though, the third film offers a chance to shed some light on the character of Star-Lord – both in terms of his home planet and a potential return to planet Earth after all those years spent away.

Per Screen Rant:

Well, I’m curious to see what would happen if Peter Quill went to his home planet,” said the actor. “I’m curious to see what kind of trouble he got in relationship wise before he met Gamora, you know. I’m curious to see just who he’s screwed over in his life to get where he is. I’m curious to see what his behaviors as a Ravager has done and how that will karmically resonate through the cosmos and come back to him. I want to see him as a father figure to Groot. I want to see him, you know, there’s a lot more those are just a few ideas off the top of my head.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be with us on May 5th.
