The Death Star Looms Large On Stylish Empire Cover For Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

December is so often a packed corridor for new releases. As the festival season begins to wind down for another year, all eyes in Hollywood begin to turn toward the awards race, as critics and moviegoers alike begin to nominate the crème de la crème from the past 12 months.

And though it’s unlikely to find itself competing in that awards-season hunt – aside from the possible technical categories – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is certainly one of, if not the biggest of December’s new arrivals. Placing the spotlight on Gareth Edwards’ anthology movie today is Empire Magazine, who have now unveiled their rather eye-catching Rogue One subscribers’ cover.

Illustrated in a way to resemble those all-important Death Star schematics, it’s a neat collector’s item for any Star Wars buff, and those who subscribe to Empire will find their copy in the post over the next few days. Meanwhile, the standard newsstand cover will be available on November 24.

As for Rogue One itself, one person that will have her eye firmly trained on those precious blueprints is Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), who assembles a ragtag crew of Rebel fighters to sabotage the Empire’s most powerful weapon before it can unleash its devastating laser. Among the cast for Edwards’ spinoff are Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen and Ben Mendelsohn as dashing big bad Orson Krennic

Come December 16, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will light up theatres across the States. It’s the first of Disney and Lucasfilm’s planned Star Wars anthology films, with the second being a Han Solo origin story headed up by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Look for that one to bow in 2018.
