If there’s one person above all others in Hollywood who you wouldn’t expect to endorse the inevitable machine uprising that’s guaranteed to result in the enslavement of humanity, then surely Arnold Schwarzenegger has got to be somewhere near the top of the list.
After all, the legendary action hero is synonymous for playing a cybernetic organism; living tissue over a metal endoskeleton in the Terminator franchise, which has been summarily run into the ground after two stone-cold classics and an underrated threequel were bastardized by three failed reboots in the space of 10 years that repeatedly hammered home the notion that fate well and truly can’t be escaped.
However, it turns out that not even Schwarzenegger is immune from infatuation with the much-heralded Netflix algorithm, even if it came as a surprise to see the veteran icon point praise in the direction of the machines when celebrating the success of his brand new series FUBAR.
If the Austrian Oak is giving the AI revolution a thumbs up, then quite frankly we’re all doomed. Netflix’s algorithm might not be on the same level as Skynet quite yet, but it definitely can’t be ruled out from happening as the streaming wars continue to heat up. Until then, the second-worst outcome in this scenario is that Schwarzenegger returns for another stab at Terminator, even if his recent comments mercifully indicate that he’s planning on keeping his sunglasses and leather jacket hung up for good this time.
He’ll be back, because he’ll always be back, just maybe not in the saga that made him a superstar.
