Despite numerous reports of Ezra Miller‘s controversial actions in 2022, The Flash director Andy Muschietti, and producer Barbara Muschietti claimed that they were not worried about the film being canceled or boycotted.

Both director and producer commented about the calls to cancel the film during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, and claimed that the film wasn’t in danger. According to Barbara, the fear was “never real.” Meanwhile, Andy pointed out that the real issue was about Miller’s mental health, something that he commented on back at CinemaCon.

“We have a lot of empathy in general for people who need help, and especially in mental health issues. That’s why they are taking the necessary steps to deal with their recovery, and we support them in that,”

Miller was accused of several violent incidents in Hawaii throughout 2022. There were reports of physical altercations and an arrest for throwing a chair that struck a woman’s head. They were also involved in a handful of drugs, burglary, and harassment allegations. Miller apologized for their past actions in a statement, in which they said they were getting treatment.

There were mixed reports about the actor’s future in DC. It was once reported by Forbes Magazine that The Flash will be the actor’s last DC film, regardless of box office performance. Recently, however, Muschietti claimed that he’s keen to have Miller back in future sequels, and Barry Allen was a role “made for him.”

Despite the controversies the actor has faced, Miller was praised for his performance during The Flash‘s advanced screenings. While the DC blockbuster’s advance screenings saw very long lines, it was predicted that The Flash would only hit around $70 million during its domestic opening weekend. However, these numbers could change once the film comes out on June 16, 2023.
