‘The Flash’ said to be a huge backwards step from the ‘Justice League’ Snyder Cut in one major way

That's really not surprising.

Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav might be head over heels in love with The Flash, calling it the best superhero movie ever, but it looks like that opinion is far from mutual.

Rohan Patel’s first reactions to the film, published to his Twitter account after watching an early screening at CinemaCon on Tuesday, are making the rounds on the DC_Cinematic subsection of Reddit, with particular emphasis on the quality of the Speed Force scenes. According to Patel, the visual effects in the sequences depicting the energy field are “a real let down,” and a “huge step back” from the fan-favorite Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

As one commentator points out, it’s all about perspective, as the critic’s review was more complimentary than otherwise, calling The Flash a “solid” attempt and a “fun movie,” while still stating that it’s a “B+ at best.”

CGI has been a point of contention in superhero films for a while now, affecting both DC and its rival Marvel. For one fan, the Speed Force take isn’t surprising based on the footage they have seen in trailers and other materials released so far, arguing there’s “not really much time left to polish it up.”

The Flash has been a generally controversial project before it even started filming thanks to not only the bizarre episodes of its main star but also all the changes happening at DC and Warner Bros. behind the scenes. Early reviews coming from CinemaCon are generally positive, but only time will tell if the film is good enough to overshadow its misfortunes. The Flash hits theaters June 16, 2023.
