The time is nearly upon us when we’ll finally say goodbye to Middle Earth, as Peter Jackson’s last hurrah – The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies – will soon be arriving in theatres. For those detractors who believe stretching out a pamphlet into a three-part fantasy epic is to blame for The Hobbit‘s sluggish pace, we’ve got news for you. According to EW, the ending scene will be a mammoth 45-minute long battle sequence.
“We have a rule that we’re not allowed to go more than two or three shots of anonymous people fighting without cutting back to our principal characters,” Peter Jackson told the magazine. “Otherwise the audience just ends up with battle fatigue.”
Along with Jackson’s interview are several key pieces of artwork, focusing on the climactic showdown. The brawl will take place at the foot of Lonely Mountain, as all races and creeds come forth to try and nab the recently-returned stash from Erebor. The scope is on par if not even more impressive than any of Jackson’s prior large-scale assaults. It’s no wonder he’s cultivating the franchise’s last scene with such care, it does after all include practically every type of character imaginable.
“There’s a lot of logistics that have to be thought through,” he went on to say. “We have dwarves and men and elves and orcs, all with different cultures, with different weapons, and different shields and patterns and tactics.”
If you’re a fan of Jackson’s Tolkien sagas, then come December 17th you’ll be amongst millions of others who’ll be queuing up to grab tickets for Bilbo’s final battle. However, you’d better reserve your seats fast. Hot on the heels of yesterday’s report, we’ve now learned from a second source (Forbes) that a teaser trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is expected to precede the trilogy closer. However, in light of the Avengers: Age Of Ultron trailer debacle, it seems far more likely that it’ll debut online, as it’s a much easier method to spread early buzz.
Gone are the days when you had to venture to a theatre for ANY trailers whatsoever. I still recall when Bruce Willis-Denzel Washington dud The Siege was released back in 1998. Legions of Star Wars fans paid for a ticket solely so they could feast their eyes on the first trailer for The Phantom Menace before leaving the theatre before the feature began. Ah, good times.
