After the mixed reception Phase Four received as a whole followed by Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania failing to kickstart Phase Five on a high, the recently acclaimed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was hailed as “saving the MCU.”

After this one, we have a few films on the way that seem to be on course to be more controversial ones — i.e. The Marvels, Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts — but at least the next movie destined to “rescue” the franchise is finally going before cameras.

As confirmed by insider Daniel Richtman, Deadpool 3 is believed to have officially started filming this Monday, May 22. Production is due to take place in London, which probably accounts for all the Brits Ryan Reynolds has added to the threequel’s cast, like The Crown‘s Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen.

Although, of course, it’s the returning familiar faces that are getting the fans hot and bothered the most, including pretty much all of the regular players from Fox’s DP films — Brianna Hildebrand and Shioli Kutsuna were most recently added to the cast — and the one and only Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

With Marvel Studios promising to deliver something extremely authentic to what audiences loved about the prior two cinematic outings for the Merc with the Mouth, then, there’s nothing but goodwill circling Deadpool 3 so, provided Reynolds and his team stay the course, we could be headed for yet another wildly popular MCU threequel, the franchise’s most reliable subgenre (you really let the side down, Quantumania).

Deadpool 3, from The Adam Project director Shawn Levy, is locked in to release on Nov. 8, 2024.
