The star of the Marvel multiverse’s very first franchise won’t make ‘Deadpool 3’ return for two major reasons

The potential for cameos maybe isn't so limitless after all.

At this point, just about anyone who’s ever worn a superhero costume in a Marvel movie is being linked to Deadpool 3, and the even weirder thing is that any of them could plausibly happen. The signature irreverence of the Ryan Reynolds-fronted franchise means we can fully expect Wade Wilson’s MCU debut to flip the notion of fan service on its head. I mean, Jennifer Garner’s great, but was anyone really chomping at the bit to see her reprise the Fox-verse’s Elektra?

Another legacy star whose name has been discussed in conjunction with the movie in recent days is none other than Wesley Snipes, the Daywalker himself. It’s often overlooked these days that, long before the MCU first opened its eyes, 1998’s Blade was the first Marvel movie to spawn its own trilogy. So, in theory, bringing Snipes back to his role, shortly before Mahershala Ali makes it his own, in DP3 would be a smart move. However, we can likely well and truly dispel any chance of this happening.

In the face of rumors flying around about Deadpool teaming up with Snipes’ Blade, scooper MyTimeToShineHello pointed out the two very good reasons why this is unlikely to occur. For starters, Reynolds worked with Snipes before on 2004’s panned Blade: Trinity, on which Snipes was notoriously difficult. Secondly, and much more pertinently, Halle Berry — believed to be returning as Storm — is reported to have had an abusive relationship with Snipes in the early 1990s.

As the scooper succinctly put it, both Reynolds and Berry have “bad history” with Snipes so the Canadian star, who’s also a producer and co-writer on the threequel, will “never let him anywhere near this movie.”

It’s also worth pointing out that Snipes-as-Blade was likely never even on the table for a potential Deadpool 3 cameo, anyway, given that the film seems to be a celebration of Fox’s Marvel efforts and Blade was released by New Line Cinema. So, in short, anyone from a Fox movie could show up in DP3 — coming May 2024 — but we can stake these Blade crossover rumors for good right now.
