Halloween is but a distant memory now that Hollywood’s major studios have rolled out their themed horror treats for 2017 (see: Jigsaw, Leatherface, Cult of Chucky), but don’t fret; Aviron Pictures has another trick up its sleeve in time for the New Year.

After landing distribution rights to the cult horror sequel, one which is coming by way of Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down), Aviron has today premiered the blood-curdling first teaser for The Strangers: Prey At Night.

Set against a slowed and downright haunting version of “I Think We’re Alone Now,” this footage dials the tension up to 11, as a group of masked loons preys on an unsuspecting family soon after their road trip takes a dangerous turn. And so, after some bickering over their current predicament, things go from bad to worse, and it isn’t long before Dollface, Pin-Up Girl and the Man in the Mask begin their cruel mind games.

Set to arrive a full 10 years after Bryan Bertino’s cult hit, The Strangers: Prey at Night has been championed as a soft reboot for the horror series, given its opened its doors to Christina Hendricks, Bailee Madison, Lewis Pullman and Martin Henderson – for the record, those unhinged psychos include Emma Bellomy as Dollface, Lea Enslin as Pin-Up Girl, and Damian Maffei as the Man in the Mask.

And considering Johannes Roberts’ achievement on 47 Meters Down, we’re willing to lend Prey at Night the benefit of the doubt. He directs from a script penned by Bertino and Ben Ketai, while the official logline reads as so:

A family’s road trip takes a dangerous turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park to stay with some relatives and find it mysteriously deserted. Under the cover of darkness, three masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test the family’s every limit as they struggle to survive.

“Never underestimate the kindness of strangers.” Aviron Pictures will begin screening The Strangers: Prey at Night on March 9th, 2018.
