Zombieland: Double Tap adds yet another noteworthy addition to its impressive cast list today in the form of Thomas Middleditch, who’ll be joining returning players Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin in the long-awaited follow-up to 2009’s Zombieland.

While many of you will know Middleditch best as the star of the HBO comedy series Silicon Valley, the actor has also dabbled in horror-comedy with the 2015 film The Final Girls, and is also set to appear in the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Middleditch is one of several recognizable newcomers already confirmed for Double Tap, with Rosario Dawson, Zoey Deutch and Avan Jogia previously reported to be on board.

While we’ve yet to learn anything about Middleditch’s character, we do have a few details on the story of Ruben Fleischer’s next film. According to recent reports, the sequel sees the old gang living in the White House before embarking on an adventure that will introduce some new types of zombies to the series that have managed to evolve over the years. Along the way, our heroes will cross paths with a “female zombie-hunting badass named Nevada,” played by Dawson, while Eisenberg’s character Columbus is getting a new love interest named Madison, played by Deutch.

Having penned the first movie, Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are back on script duties, along with Wonder Woman 1984 scribe David Callaham. And speaking of comic book films, director Fleischer returns to the series fresh off the box office success of last year’s Venom.

Columbia Pictures has waited an awfully long time to put Zombieland: Double Tap into production, but we’ll find out if the series can justify its return when the sequel hits theaters on October 11th, 2019.
