Is Thor: Ragnarok Going To Adapt Marvel’s Planet Hulk?

Rumours of a Planet Hulk adaptation have persisted for years, but with it becoming clear that a Hulk movie is complicated by some legal issues with Universal, the chances of it happening any time soon seem to be somewhere between slim and none. Rumours of a Planet Hulk adaptation have persisted for years, but with it becoming clear that a Hulk movie is complicated by some legal issues with Universal, the chances of it happening any time soon seem to be somewhere between slim and none. However, with the Green Goliath set to take on a leading role in Thor: Ragnarok, could that cosmic adventure adapt the story in some form?

If a new report is to be believed, the answer is yes! Apparently, Thor: Ragnarok will feature Loki teaming up with Hela, destroying Mjolnir and banishing him from Asgard. However, rather than landing on Earth, Thor ends up on a gladiatorial planet and is forced to fight his way through the arena until coming face to face with the champion. If you haven’t already guessed, that champion is The Hulk.

Here’s how Geel.com describes the way this whole thing is going to play out in Thor: Ragnarok:

“He’s managed to avoid reverting back to the Banner state since we last saw him in the Quinjet in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Hulk in Hulk form is pretty much unkillable, so he survived the trip to Sakaar (however he got there). His ‘Banner’ is starting to seep through into the Hulk persona, and because of the Hulk-Banner melding, Hulk actually remembers Thor and his relationship to him. That’s what starts the two on a Midnight Run to the MacGuffin that Thor desperately needs.”

If accurate, this sounds pretty great, but with the film still in the very early stages of production, it’s best to take stories like this with a big pinch of salt for the time being. Still, Thor: Ragnarok would definitely be a good place to adapt elements of the Planet Hulk arc, and we’re definitely eager to see how this develops over the coming weeks and months.
