Despite being a hugely popular character, Thor has yet to find success with his own solo movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both the original and its sequel, The Dark World, were fairly underwhelming affairs that are often considered to be some of the weaker entries into the franchise. Now, with Thor: Ragnarok gearing up to hit theatres in November, hopes are high that director Taika Waititi can turn things around.
So far, the signs are promising, but what we really need is to see some footage. Understandably, Marvel has been focusing all of their efforts on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, as that film is set to hit theatres on May 5th. However, once that’s out of the way, they’ll be able to turn their attention to the God of Thunder’s threequel. It’s at that point which we expect to finally get the first trailer and if James Gunn is to be believed, it’s going to be one hell of a preview.
Taking to Twitter, the Guardians director noted that he’s already seen it and it might just be “the best Marvel Studios” trailer ever.

That’s certainly some high praise, especially coming from someone like Gunn. As Marvel fans know, the Guardians films have delivered some of the most exciting and well put together trailers in recent memory. So if the director is saying that what Marvel has done for Ragnarok could be the studio’s best preview yet, you can bet that it’s going to be something pretty special. It makes sense, too, that they’d want to deliver a kick-ass trailer here, as like we mentioned above, the first two Thor films weren’t particularly great and everyone’s hoping that this third one can turn the tide.
The other key takeaway from Gunn’s comment is that the Thor: Ragnarok preview is now complete. That means it shouldn’t be too much longer before it debuts. It could very well be attached to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but something tells us Marvel may wait until that’s out of the way to release it. Regardless, it should be with us in the near future, and definitely before Comic-Con.
