Much like Spider-Man: Homecoming or indeed any other Marvel movie before it, Thor: Ragnarok is approaching that critical stage in its lifecycle where the Powers That Be tend to pump out countless last-minute promos in order to fan the flames of excitement.
Launch one trailer too many, though, and you risk overexposure, and there have been plenty of examples in the past where studios have ostensibly spoiled their blockbusters prior to release. Terminator: Genisys, we’re looking at you.
Granted, Marvel tends to have a pretty good track record when it comes to skating around spoilers and sure enough, the latest promo for Thor: Ragnarok has arrived to prove it. Edited in a similar fashion to yesterday’s rousing TV spot, in which the God of Thunder formed a team of so-called Revengers, the above teaser does contain a sliver of new footage, though you needn’t worry about encountering any tangible story clues.
Front and center are Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), who essentially laughs off the idea of forming a team with his fellow Avenger, yelling, “no team, only Hulk!” And we can’t say we disagree.
Of course, despite containing some elements of the beloved Planet Hulk storyline, Ragnarok is still very much considered to be a Thor solo movie, one that will herald Hemsworth’s first turn in the MCU since the release of Thor: The Dark World – an end-credits scene in Doctor Strange notwithstanding. The same applies for Loki, too, who was last seen perched on the Asgardian throne. Word is the God of Mischief and his wicked ways will lead to the advent of Hela, Goddess of Death, who we know to be the threequel’s primary antagonist.
Expect Thor: Ragnarok to zoom into theaters in time for November 3rd. It’s the penultimate precursor to Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, which is due to drop on May 4th, 2018.
