It’s no secret that Thor’s had a bit of a tough time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His first two films failed to excite audiences and are often considered to be amongst the weakest efforts that the studio’s produced. At least, as far as the MCU goes. But then Thor: Ragnarok came along and all of the sudden, the God of Thunder is all that anyone can talk about, with his upcoming threequel shaping up to be one of the most exciting releases of the year.
After two thrilling trailers, the most recent of which dropped a few weeks back at San Diego Comic-Con, it seems like everyone’s fully on board now with the Taika Waititi-directed blockbuster, and given its wacky tone, boatload of humor and what looks to be a roller coaster ride of an adventure, we have every reason to believe that Ragnarok will be the film that brings redemption to the hero and washes the poor taste left by Thor and Thor: The Dark World from our mouths.
Now, with its November 3rd release date quickly approaching, Marvel is starting to ramp up the marketing machine. Their promotional campaign continues today with yet another promo, though it’s not exactly what we’d call ‘new.’ That’s because it’s essentially just a recut, bite-sized version of the one we got from Comic-Con. It may not be anything to stop the presses then, but if nothing else, it’s a strong reminder of the wild trip we’re in for come November.
In terms of plot details, what we can tell you about the upcoming blockbuster is that the God of Thunder finds himself stripped of Mjölnir and flung to the other side of the universe, where he winds up on the alien planet of Sakaar. From the looks of it, Thor will be pushed to the absolute brink once the film gets going in earnest. But he won’t be going up against Hela alone; as the recent sizzle reel attests, Waititi’s galactic adventure sees Thor buddy up with his estranged sibling Loki (Tom Hiddleston), along with the Incredible Hulk and Tessa Thompson’s fearless warrior, Valkyrie.
As mentioned above, Waititi is behind the lens for this one, and he’s continually impressed moviegoers through the likes of What We Do in the Shadows and the really rather excellent Hunt For the Wilderpeople. With that in mind, we’re curious to see what he’s done with Thor: Ragnarok once it opens on November 3rd.
