New Avengers: Infinity War Art Suggests Thor Won’t Get His Eye Back

Some new promo art for Avengers: Infinity War has surfaced and it shows Thor with his eyepatch on - but will he have it in the film?

Out of all the characters in Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War, the one who will perhaps see the most change is Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. That’s not too surprising, either, given the state he was left in at the end of Ragnarok, but from a new weapon to slightly different armor, and even getting his cape back, the fan favorite hero will be undergoing some significant alterations in the pic.

Along with all of that, though, there’s still the matter of whether or not the God of Thunder will have his eye back in Infinity War. For those of you who’ve already seen Ragnarok – which we imagine is everyone reading this – you’ll know that Taika Waititi’s threequel left the Norse god with only one eye following his climactic duel with Hela. However, that Vanity Fair photoshoot from back in November had Thor looking very binocular, which led to some confusion.

Would he be getting his eye back for Infinity War? Have the Russos come up with a comic book-esque way to restore it? Or were the photos just done like that to spare fans from spoilers and in the film itself, Hemsworth would still have his patch? So many questions, so few answers, and only adding to that was a ton of merchandise which all had Thor with both eyes in tact.

But now a new piece of the puzzle has surfaced in the form of some promo art and it features the fan favorite character with a patch on, which, when coupled with what we’ve seen in the trailers, has us thinking maybe he won’t get his eye back after all. You can check it out down in the gallery below, along with some of that aforementioned merch which has Thor rocking both eyes.

Of course, this being promotional art, it’s entirely possible that it’s not accurate. Then again, given that the trailers have shown him with the patch on, we imagine that he’ll missing an eye for at least part of the movie – if not the whole thing.

It’s a really cool bit of characterization for the God of Thunder, too, visually signalling that he’s finally ready to take Odin’s place as the King of Asgard, and as such, we’re hopeful that he sticks with this look for a while, even if we don’t imagine him being one-eyed for the remainder of his time in the MCU.

It’d be a bit of a logistical nightmare, after all, having to act with the use of only one eye. Granted, they could just use a CG patch – which they actually had to end up doing for Ragnarok – but still, it does add another complication to a production that’s no doubt already pretty complex given its scale and scope.

One way or another, though, we don’t have long to go before we find out for sure just how Thor will end up looking, as Avengers: Infinity War touches down in theaters on May 4th. It’ll then be followed by the currently untitled Avengers 4 on May 3rd of 2019.
