Tom Ford is a writer-director that doesn’t venture behind the lens very often – his sole feature film, A Single Man, fired Colin Firth directly into Oscar conversation back in 2010 – but when he does, the industry tends to stand up and take notice.

Six years on from that cracking debut and we arrive at the launch of Nocturnal Animals, a thrilling new romantic thriller that features Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal in central roles. It’s riding the crest of a wave of stellar reviews going into its awards-friendly December release, and following up on yesterday’s stark teaser, we now have the first full-length trailer to share with you.

Taking point as Susan and Edward, respectively, Adams and Gyllenhaal stand as the beating heart of Ford’s Nocturnal Animals, portraying a divorced couple who become embroiled in a twisted revenge plot that stems from Gyllenhaal’s estranged writer, Edward. But Susan is harboring a dark secret of her own, openly confessing to betraying her former spouse during their marriage. Exactly what that treachery entailed remains to be seen, but toss in the haunting cinematography and an understated, wholly unsettling score and we’re already finding it difficult not to be sucked into Ford’s thrill ride.

Also starring Armie Hammer, a wild-looking Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Shannon, and Laura Linney, Nocturnal Animals is due to make its bow in select cities come November 18. It’ll then expand nationwide on December 9.

From writer/director Tom Ford comes a haunting romantic thriller of shocking intimacy and gripping tension that explores the thin lines between love and cruelty, and revenge and redemption. Academy Award nominees Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal star as a divorced couple discovering dark truths about each other and themselves in “Nocturnal Animals.”
