Tom Hanks To Play Capt. Richard Phillips In A Captain’s Duty

Deadline is reporting that Tom Hanks is attached to play Capt. Richard Phillips in the big screen adaptation of the novel A Captain's Duty, which was written by Capt. Phillips. The book tells the real life story of Phillips, who "gave himself up as a hostage to Somali pirates to keep his crew from having to leave the ship with them. After three days alone with the armed pirates in a small lifeboat, Phillips was saved by Navy SEALs who staged a raid that left three captors dead and another captured."

The picture is set up at Sony Pictures and the team behind The Social Network, Scott Rudin, Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and Kevin Spacey, will be producing. Billy Ray, scribe of The Hunger Games, recently turned in a draft of the script which apparently caught Hanks’ attention. I don’t know about you but I can already smell the Oscars for this one.

What do you think? Would Hanks do a good job of portraying the brave and courageous Capt. Phillips?
